New to Woodlands

A very warm welcome to Woodlands Infant School.

Starting a new school or nursery is a big step for children and for families. Whether your child is joining us in Nursery or Reception, we know that there can be lots to think about, lots to remember and often a few worries along the way. This section of our website is here to help you feel informed, reassured and ready for the journey ahead.

At Woodlands, we want every child to feel safe, happy and excited to come to school. We take time to get to know our children as individuals and we work closely with families so that each child can settle in at their own pace. Some children run in confidently from the very first day, while others need a little more time, support and reassurance. Both are absolutely fine.

Our aim is for every child to feel that they belong at Woodlands. Through warm relationships, familiar routines and a nurturing environment, we help children to grow in confidence, build friendships and begin to see themselves as learners.

In this section, you will find information to support your child’s start with us, including our New to Nursery and New to Reception information, transition materials and child-friendly questions and answers. These resources are designed to help you talk to your child about starting at Woodlands and to give you a clear picture of what to expect.

You will also find practical information about how you can help your child get ready for school or nursery life. This is not about children being able to do everything before they start. It is about small steps, practised over time, which can help children feel more confident, independent and settled.
