PE and Sports Premium

At Woodlands Infant School, we believe that physical education, sport and active play are an important part of every child’s development. As an infant school, we want our pupils to develop positive attitudes towards being active from the very beginning of their school journey.

The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of PE, physical activity and sport. Schools must use this funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the PE, sport and physical activity they provide.

At Woodlands, we use our PE and Sport Premium funding to:

improve the quality of PE teaching across the school
develop staff confidence, subject knowledge and expertise
increase opportunities for pupils to be physically active during the school day
provide a wider range of sporting and physical activity experiences
encourage pupils to enjoy movement, teamwork and healthy competition
support pupils’ confidence, wellbeing and personal development
make sure that all pupils, including those with SEND, can access and enjoy PE and physical activity

As an infant school, our focus is on helping children to build the fundamental movement skills they need for future learning in PE. This includes developing balance, coordination, agility, strength, control, teamwork and confidence. We also want children to understand that being active can be enjoyable and can help them to feel healthy, happy and ready to learn.

Our use of the PE and Sport Premium is reviewed carefully by school leaders and governors. We consider how the funding has improved pupils’ participation, confidence and attainment in PE and sport, as well as how improvements can be sustained over time.
